Genes

Genes are passed down from parents to children containing psychical and biological traits, for this reason they are considered the basic unit of inheritance. "Genes do not specify behavior directly, but rather encode molecular products that build and govern the functioning of the brain through which behavior is expressed" (Robinson et al.,2008) Some genes are dormant, but can become active under certain social and environmental conditions.

Ways genes can influence behavior...

A mother who is an introvert can pass on that trait so her child may also be an introvert

Schizophrenia is linked to genes, and it is hereditary, so it's commonly found in families.

Genes can also influence eating habits and obesity
